AKP Sports Foundation returns to New York City for its 3rd Annual Back2School Invitation + Festival
August 11, 2025 – New York City AKP Sports Foundation (AKP), the nation's fastest-growing Asian American sports nonprofit, is excited to announce its upcoming Back 2 School (B2S) event on August 23, 2025 at The Salvation Army Manhattan Citadel Corps Community Center (175 E 125th St, New York, NY). This event is set to bring together children from grades __ across the New York Metropolitan Area for a day filled with fun, engaging activities and free school supplies given out to celebrate the start of the new school year.
This year’s B2S will feature a variety of sports and recreational activities aimed at fostering community spirit and encouraging physical fitness among young participants. Also, simultaneously highlighting the event will be an AAPI basketball tournament that unites east coast-based Asian American churches, all participating in supporting the children’s field day event and back to school supply drive.
“We are delighted to welcome both returning families and new members of the NYC community to this year’s Back2School event. It has been inspiring to witness congregations and local partners come together with a shared purpose to encourage and uplift the next generation. Back2School Festival is a meaningful expression of community in action, helping young students feel loved, equipped, and excited as they head into a new school year. We are grateful for every individual, family, and church that has chosen to be part of this mission.” Heimin You, VP of Cares, AKP Sports Foundation
“We are honored to bring the Back2School Festival to New York City. This event embodies our mission to empower youth through sports, community, and faith—especially those from underserved backgrounds. By providing a day full of fun activities alongside essential school supplies, we aim to uplift families and inspire confidence as students prepare to start a new school year. We look forward to building lasting connections within the vibrant New York community and continuing to support the next generation’s growth.” John Lee, President/CEO, AKP Sports Foundation
The event is projected to have over 300 athletes and attendees, with a hopeful turnout from local families and community members. The distribution of school supplies will ensure that each child leaves the event well-prepared for the upcoming school year, reflecting AKP’s commitment to supporting underserved communities.
