AKP Sports Foundation Hosts Successful Back 2 School (B2S) Field Day and Invitational in New York

August 19, 2024 | Brooklyn, NY – The AKP Sports Foundation (AKP), the nation’s fastest-growing Asian American sports nonprofit, successfully hosted its Back 2 School (B2S) Field Day and Invitational on August 17th to 18th at the Major R. Owens Community Center in Brooklyn, NY. The event brought together children from grades 1-8 across the New York Metropolitan Area for a day filled with fun, engaging activities, and the distribution of free school supplies to celebrate the start of the new school year.

The B2S Field Day featured a wide range of sports and recreational activities, fostering community spirit and encouraging physical fitness among the young participants. One of the event's highlights was the AAPI basketball tournament, which united East Coast-based Asian American churches in a spirited competition, with participants also supporting the children’s field day activities and back-to-school supply drive. The tournament winner was the Supreme Team from Exilic Church who won on a game winner against McLean Bible Church’s team in the finals.

"We were thrilled to host this event in Brooklyn and witness the strong community participation," said John Lee, CEO of AKP Sports Foundation. "Our goal was to provide an exciting day of activities while also strengthening bonds within the community and supporting the next generation as they embark on a new academic year. We’re proud of the impact we’ve made and look forward to continuing our mission."

The event saw over 300 athletes and attendees, with a great turnout from local families and community members. The distribution of school supplies ensured that each child left the event well-prepared for the upcoming school year, reflecting AKP’s commitment to supporting underserved communities.
