The 2022 Korean American Soccer Tournament(2022 KAST), in which 8 universities across the country participate, will be held on April 16th at Superdome Sports located in Waldwick, New Jersey.

The preparatory committee said that the team of George Washington University, New York University, Boston University, Boston College and University of Texas, Penn State University, Tufts University, University of Rochester, and SUNY Albany will participate in this competition, and about 300 people will gather.

Young Koreans such as John Lee, Jae-Seok Choi, Tae-Yeon Lee, and Seong-Woo Kim, who organized the event, said, “Hate crimes against Asians are increasing rapidly during the pandemic. And we conceived this contest to convey the message that Koreans should unite their voices to fight against any kind of hatred.”

The organizers said that major politicians from the state legislature, including the governor of New Jersey, as well as New Jersey State Representative Ellen Park and NYC Councilwoman Linda Lee and Julie Won, were also invited to the event, and expressed their ambition to show the cohesive appearance of Koreans to key politicians.

The co-host of the event, Alpha Kapital Partners LLC, is expressing that “this tournament is not only an opportunity for Koreans to reunite after the pandemic but also to raise awareness of Asian hate. We will raise funds to support Asian American organizations actively fighting against AAPI hate and match all donations contributed on the day of the tournament. The attending players and audience will stand as one to create positive synergy overcoming the pandemic and gathering strength through challenging times.”
